Lt. Governor Joins NASCAR Sprint Cup in Fontana as Honorary Race Official; Emphasizes Economic Effect on Inland Empire


(Fontana, CA) - California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will participate in pre-race and starting ceremonies as an honorary race official at the NASCAR Auto Club 400 race tomorrow, Sunday March 22, 2015 from 11:50am in Fontana.

Fontana, California is home to the Auto Club Speedway, a premiere motorsport facility with over 320 days of track activity a year and is one of the fastest tracks on the NASCAR circuits.

Lt. Governor Newsom will present a proclamation honoring Auto Club Speedway, recognizing the facility's significant economic role in California's Inland Empire. The NASCAR Auto Club 400 race weekend generates over $100 million in economic activity for the local economy and the Auto Club Speedway has an annual economic impact of $136 million to $220 million, supporting local jobs and the region's small businesses.

Auto Club Speedway is the largest sports venue in the State of California and the 2015 Auto Club 400 is expected to attract more than 70,000 fans from around the world to enjoy the Sprint Cup Race Series.
